#BEMORE SNAIL
Here at St Mark's, we are proud to be a part of the Martlett's Hospice Snail Trail Campaign.-raising money for the local hospice. One of our parents and local artists - Jacqueline Hammond, worked with our children to create a unique design. We incorporated all of the children's ideas and created a snail that encourages us to stop and take time to enjoy our world.
Our junior snail has been safely whiling away the summer at Snailspace HQ, but he is now on the move to its new home:
The location of our Snail will be: The Crypt at St George’s Church - which is our parish church, so a very special link for us!

Year 5 pay tribute to Tom Highflyer
Four of our Year 5 children were very proud to attend a special memorial service to celebrate the life of an African slave boy—Thomas Highflyer, who was a former St Mark’s pupil. They travelled to the service on a new bus named after Tom, and read their inspirational poems they had written about him, at the service.
The bus company managing director was so impressed with their poems, that he has requested that they be sent through to be displayed on the side of Tom’s bus!
The event was captured by BBC, ITV and the Argus.

The service was also attended by the Mayor, the head of the City Council and other local dignitaries. All of the attendees complimented the children’s respectful attitude and contribution to the event. Here is what the journalist from BBC Radio Sussex had to say,
“I met some of your lovely children at the ceremony to rededicate Thomas Highflyer’s gravestone today and recorded a little snippet of their readings which feature in my short report...I know I will not be the only one saying how impressed I was by the way they took part in the ceremony this morning.”
